Committees

Our one congregation is made up of many different interest groups.  Some people are more interested in religious services, others in the Religious School, and still others in social justice or cultural activities.  Our committee structure allows those with particular interests to develop programs that will help them to express and deepen their Jewishness.
Pensacola Board of Jewish Education Committee

Temple Beth-El has a long and proud history of educating our children. In 2010 Temple Beth El and B'nai Israel Synagogue Religious Schools combined to form one school - Yachad Jewish Community School of Pensacola . Our current Pensacola Board of Jewish Education Committee members participate in supporting this new joint endeavor. This board (in partnership with members from B'nai Israel Synangogue) are but the latest in a long succession of members who take the Torah's "You shall teach them diligently unto thy children..." as both a responsibility and an honor.

We are pleased to be using the curriculum developed by the Institute of Southern Jewish Life in Jackson, Mississippi. This cutting edge curriculum is specially designed for small religious schools and provide our students with education of the highest level. For more details, consult the section of this website dedicated to the Religious School. The Board of Education Chair is Ross Goodman and the Co-Directors of the Religious School are Wendi Ochs, Temple Beth El and Melissa Sontag, B'nai Israel.

Ritual Committee

Temple Beth El in Pensacola has a very active Ritual Committee.  The Committee assists our Rabbi in crafting services that will be meaningful to all segments of the congregation.  Our congregation is made up of descendents of the original founders, long time residents, families who have been in the area a short time, and members of the active and retired military.

Many of our members are Jews by Choice or non-Jews married to a Jewish spouse and raising their children as Jews. With this in mind, the Ritual Committee, working closely with and under the guidance of our Rabbi, promotes different types of religious services that the Temple offers.  It is the goal of the Committee to help make this Temple a home for all Jews to celebrate their spirituality, enhance their knowledge, and join with other Jews in a community of mutual support, and cultural awareness.

Outreach Committee
The Temple Beth-El Outreach Committee is dedicated to developing our membership from both within and without.  Our congregation is large enough so that everyone does not know everyone else.  One of our goals is to increase social interaction among members.  There are also unafiliated Jews whom we seek to invite to our congregation.  We also seek to assist interfaith families and families in which one or both parents is a Jew-by-Choice.  Through socials and discussion groups, with programs, and with the relationships that grow in a caring congregation, we seek to bring the members of our congregatin together.
