Religious School News

For Generations, Temple Beth El has taken the injunction, "You shall teach them diligently unto thy children," very seriously. In 2010,Temple Beth El and B'nai Israel Synagogue Religious schools joined to form one school - Yachad Jewish Community School of Pensacola.

Our Mission - " Striving to educate students to become lifelong Jewish learners while honoring individual traditions and embracing Jewish pluralism."

The name Yachad means "together" in Hebrew and is a metaphor for our unique school. Our goal is to help students form positive Jewish identities rooted in core Jewish values and beliefs. We want them to see Judaism as fundamental to their lives both as moral decision makers and as Jews who celebrate the beauty of life. Through both classroom instruction and diverse Jewish experiences, our hope is that they will embrace the idea that Jewish education is a lifelong pursuit.

We offer a unique pluralistic approach to education. Our students develop a level of comfort with diverse Jewish practices as they learn about customs, rituals and traditions through a spiraled curriculum. Students benefit from the insights and perspectives of a diverse classroom guided by a classroom teacher committed to strengthening each child's knowledge and understanding.

The Curriculum

Currently, we are involved in an innovative curriculum development program sponsored by the Institute for Southern Jewish Life based in Jackson, Mississippi. The result of some 35 years of educational development, in which our rabbi has played a major part, the Instutute's curriculum is specifically designed for small congregations. Jewish customs, Jewish texts, Jewish ethics, Jewish history, and a love and passion for all things Jewish are built into this curriculum which is having a significant impact both here and in other congregations around the country.
Reform Movement Summer Camps

One of the most important ways to build and develop Jewish identity is to send your child to one the Reform Movement's summer camps.  We in Pensacola are fortunate to sit right in between two wonderful summer camps.  The Union for Reform Judaism's Henry S. Jacobs Camp is just 5 hours away in Utica, Mississippi (right outside of Jackson).  The Union for Reform Judaism's Camp Coleman is just 7 hours away in the mountains north of Atlanta, Georgia.  Both provide wonderful programming
